The Carroll County Health Department today announced the county’s third, fourth, and fifth deaths as a result of COVID-19. The three individuals were all residents at Pleasant View Nursing Home and all had underlying medical conditions. The first individual was a male in his 70s, the second was a male in his 70s, and the third was a female in her 60s. Our thoughts are with their families and loved ones.
There are 77 total positive COVID-19 cases from Pleasant View Mount Airy, all facility residents. Eighteen of the facility’s 95 residents tested negative. All resident test results have now been reported.
Staff experiencing COVID-19 symptoms are being tested, and the Health Department will follow up with individuals as indicated.
On Friday, March 27, the Carroll County Health Department visited the Pleasant View Nursing Home and reported the first positive cases at the facility. The Carroll County Health Department consulted with the Maryland Department of Health to put in place additional infection control measures.
To ensure adequate support for patients who remained in the facility, the National Guard deployed a medic unit to help assess all residents, with personal protective equipment provided by the Maryland Department of Health. After triage from the National Guard, a number of patients have been transported to area hospitals in order to receive a higher level of care.
The Health Department has had a physician on site throughout the day today, and continues to provide administrative support and resources, including personal protective equipment, to help protect the health and safety of Pleasant View Mount Airy patients and health care workers, with additional support from local and state partners. The Maryland Department of Health has facilitated the purchase of oxygen concentrators for the facility.
We continue to focus our efforts on caring for and communicating with patients, staff, and family members, and we ask the media not to disturb the Pleasant View Nursing Home property.
